Environmental Communication and Activities

Ricoh Global SDGs Action is an annual month-long environmental event held in June. In June 2020, we changed the name of this event from the “Global Eco Event” to “Ricoh Global SDGs Action”.

The event encourages Ricoh employees to consider how they can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and act with a real sense of global unity. It aims to contribute to achieving the SDGs through our daily business activities. It also encourages all employees to talk about the connection between their work and achieving the SDGs, while continuously improving our corporate value by resolving social issues.

We aim to leverage the knowledge that we have amassed through Ricoh Global SDGs Action. Working together with customers and societies across the world, we strive to widen the circle of our activities to achieve the SDGs.

Eco Action Day is a national public awareness campaign organised by Ricoh since 2007, in partnership with key NGO, government, and private sector partners in Singapore. It is held in June every year to commemorate the United Nations Environment Programme’s World Environment Day, which seeks to raise global awareness on the need to take positive action for the environment. Every year, Ricoh, along with various supporting partners, engages its employees, customers, corporate neighbours, government organizations and the wider public to take steps to reduce their impact on the environment.

To date, more than 1,500 organisations, including multinational corporations, government agencies, private companies, and educational institutions have participated in Eco Action Day.

In 2019, we also organised the inaugural community seed distribution in a bid to cultivate sustainable production and consumption for the local community. From 2021 onwards, the pledges will be aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals to further strengthen our commitment to their achievement.

Ricoh Asia Pacific is the first private company to be awarded with Singapore Environment Council’s (SEC) Eco Office Certification. We received this award in 2014 in recognition of our efforts in transforming our office into a more sustainable one based on SEC’s criteria. We continue to be a leading example for eco-offices by attaining the Eco Office Plus (Elite) status in 2020. In addition, we are featured as one of the case studies for the National Environment Agency’s 3R Guidebook for Offices.

As an Eco Office pioneer, we conducted tours in our premises for government agencies, corporations and schools and shared our experiences in sustainable office management and green practices. Participants could then bring back ideas to implement in their own premises. More than 200 organisations and schools have benefited from this unique Eco Office tour.

Ricoh Asia Pacific has been a long-time supporter and participant of the annual “Clean and Green Singapore” campaign organised by NEA. Since 2005, we have organised tree planting activities in locations such as Bukit Batok Nature Park, Mount Imbiah and the Istana Park.

To support reforestation in Singapore, we also took part in the Garden City Fund’s “Plant-A-Tree” program and the Butterfly Trail @ Orchard project by Nature Society Singapore.

In 2019, we introduced a community seed distribution drive in support of Singapore’s 30 by 30 vision, which is to produce 30% of Singapore’s nutritional needs locally by 2030. We hope that this initiative will cultivate sustainable production and consumption habits among Singaporeans and encourage everyone to plant and harvest their own food.

Ricoh Asia Pacific became a “Friend of Water” in 2014 by adopting the Marina Reservoir, which enabled us to increase awareness of water conservation among staff, customers and the public. As part of our outreach efforts, we translated and produce the Japanese version of the Marina Barrage brochure which is available at the Visitor Centre.

We have also participated in PUB’s Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters Programme by organising 4 Water Trails for our staff at Marina Reservoir, MacRitchie Reservoir, Lorong Halus Wetland and Sengkang Floating Wetland.

Being an active partner in Singapore World Water Day, we have produced educational posters for all Japanese schools in Singapore so that students learn about World Water Day and understand the importance of water resources in Singapore. We also share messages about water conservation on our social media platforms to encourage the public to make every drop count.
